A history of the cottage, and description of the accommodation
Barbara-Ann's House was built in the heart of the Seatown in 1907 by local fishermen, who had acquired the land from the Laird. The kitchen extension was added much later, some thirty years ago.
In the days when Barbara-Ann herself lived here, there was one main living room, where all the cooking was done over an open fire in the chimney.
In present times, the village provides a mixture of sandy and rocky beach, with wonderful rock pools at low tide and plenty of space for sand castles. There is a waterfall to a freshwater burn flowing across the beach to the sea, providing plenty of safe fun for children. Seals and otters can often be found around the beach, together with just about every species of birdlife, and an RSPB site at Troup Head.
The house is on three levels, one bedroom and a modern bathroom on the first floor and a large attic room on the second floor. It has been fully modernised over the past five years to bring it bang up to date with a full central heating system, full insulation, a lovely multi-fuel burner in the sitting room and a range cooker in the cosy kitchen. The cottage can comfortably accommodate a family of four in two bedrooms - one double bed and two singles. An extra cot or camping bed can be provided if required, please let us know when you book how many you will be!
We provide all linen - bedding and towels, and everything you will need for your stay to be perfect is supplied. There is a small quantity of basic essentials in terms of groceries in the house, and we would ask you to kindly replace whatever of these you might use, so that there is a supply for the next person. All you will need to bring is beach towels and any personal items.
There is a lovely garden to the back of the house, which is terraced up the cliff side to a sun deck at the top with gas barbecue and superb views over the bay.
The cottage provides excellent accommodation all through the year, being a wonderful base for Christmas and the Hogmanay celebrations, a walkers and birdwatchers paradise throughout the year and a super spot for a family holiday during the spring, summer and autumn months. Children can run freely in a safe environment, and parents can relax and enjoy!
